WOOTTON Bassett manager Paul Braithwaite has held his hands up and taken the blame as he saw his side concede a last minute goal to lose 1-0 away to Holyport.

The visitors had a free-kick in the hosts’ half with the seconds ticking down on the clock and Braithwaite sent an extra player forward into the box to try and snatch the win.

The plan back-fired however and Holyport countered after the set-piece failed to beat the first man, sending Bassett home with nothing to show for their efforts.

“It was disappointing to concede the way we did and so late in the game as well,” said Braithwaite.

“It probably falls on me at the end of the day. I probably put one too many players in the box, thinking with two minutes to go we could nab it and win the game, and unfortunately, the delivery into the box didn’t make the first man and they broke and scored.

“I think the performance wasn’t too bad. I think a point would have been fair.”
