MALMESBURY Victoria manager Wayne Kibble says that his side’s focus has shifted towards making sure their season isn’t a case of after the ‘Lord Mayor’s show’ following the Vics’ FA Vase heroics.

Kibble’s men beat Hellenic League Bracknell Town before honourably bowing out of the Vase at the first round proper stage last weekend as they were beaten 5-3 by Western League outfit Bradford Town.

The Vics were back in Wiltshire League action as they travelled to struggling Westbury United Reserves last weekend and despite failing to hit the heights, Kibble’s side ran out 4-1 winners.

“I think that there have been so many big games to concentrate on that the boys somehow weren’t up for it properly last weekend,” said the Malmesbury boss.

“We’ve had a chat about it and the aim is to try and push for a promotion place in the league now.

“We’re going to train harder and now that we’re not concerned about the Vase anymore, we can try to do as well as we can up until Christmas before really pushing on in the new year.

“It did take a while for us to wake up. It’s never easy in difficult conditions but for the last 20 minutes of each half, we really clicked.

“There were some stern words at half-time and the boys eventually showed what they can do.”

Ed Wilkins and Will Picter struck either side of the break to cancel out Westbury’s lead before Ant Brown fired home from the penalty spot after Wilkins had been brought down.

Wilkins met Sam Parker’s cross with a thumping header and the effort ricocheted off the United goalkeeper before bouncing in to the net off a home defender.

Elsewhere, Josh Robinson and James Eatough both scored twice as league leaders Melksham Town Reserves stretched their unbeaten run to 12 games with a 4-2 win at Supermarine Sports.

Devizes Town Reserves got back to winning ways with a 4-1 triumph at Wootton Bassett Town Development whilst Corsham Town Reserves drew 2-2 on their visit to Sarum Youth.

There was an afternoon to forget for Wilts Calne Town as they were hammered 7-0 at high-flying Ludgershall Sports.
