MELKSHAM Town manager Darren Perrin was pleased to see his side keep their hunt for honours on all fronts alive and kicking in the Wiltshire Senior Cup.

Melksham took on revamped Wiltshire League rivals Trowbridge Town at the Conigre and rushed into a three-goal lead thanks to early goals from Gary Higdon, Dan Kovacs and Leigh Rogers.

Nathan Flower hit back against his former club to reduce the deficit but Rogers fired in his second of the afternoon to help ease Melksham through to the quarter-finals.

“Credit to Trowbridge because they’re a decent side. Kieran Baggs (manager) and Micky Baggs (assistant) have worked wonders there,” said Perrin.

“We knew they had a lot of Western League players but the game was effectively over after 20 minutes. We wanted to go for the jugular and we did that.

“We probably could have been more ruthless, like we have when we’ve scored six or eight, but that’s being picky.

“We’re into the quarter-finals and that’s good. We aren’t going to have a league game this month, which is a bit of a worry, but we want to try and do well in every competition that we’re in.”

Forward Shaun Benison made his return from injury as a late substitute against Trowbridge whilst Mike Perrott could feature in the Melksham squad for Saturday’s first round Les Phillips Cup tie at Wellington.

Captain Dave Thompson and defender Luke Smith could both also make their return from long-term injury but Higdon and Rogers are missing through work commitments and suspension respectively.
