THE bottom two sides in Division Three met at Stanley Park, Chippenham, where hosts FC Trowbridge picked up their second win of the season.

A thrilling 4-3 victory over basement side Zeals FC means that Kevin Norris’ side now have a six-point gap over their guests at the foot of the table.

Goals for Jose Gualda and Conner Stanfield saw Jason Carter’s Zeals side take a 2-0 lead before Nathan Ball tucked away a one-on-one for Trowbridge to reduce the deficit before half time.

Shane Rendell regained a two-goal cushion for Zeals but the villagers were unable to hold onto their lead for long as a brilliant Kieran Green 35-yard free kick that the Zeals keeper spilled into his own net and a delightful lob from Natti Mills squared things up at 3-3, before a superbly struck free kick from Mills into the top corner completed the turnaround.

Having lost the lead at the top of the table following the recent withdrawal of Worton & Cheverell Reserves, Barry Holloway’s Melksham Town A regained it from rivals FC Box Steam Brewery following their 10-0 victory at The Beeches over Hilperton United Reserves.

A double for Nick Ridout and a Jordan Kirk effort gave Melksham a 3-0 half time lead. After the break Tom Jones made it 4-0 before Ridout completed his hat-trick for 5-0.

Luke Smith bagged number six and a second for Jordan Kirk took the score to 7-0. James Dark’s late double and a third goal of the afternoon from Kirk made up the Melksham tally.

The match at Clarendon Academy between Trowbridge based The Stiffs and opponents Aces FC was abandoned after 68 minutes after the Stiffs' Jason Harvey suffered a torn muscle at the top of his leg following an innocuous challenge with Mike Little. At the time of Megan Fear calling an early halt to proceedings, Aces were winning 2-1.

Aces led 2-0 at the break thanks to what would have been a debut goal from Jon Strand.

Their lead was double when a long range shot from Dave Morris came back off the bar and rebounded in the net of the back of Stiffs' keeper Andy Curtis.

The Stiffs halved the arrears through Chris Giles, who drilled home a 40 yarder for 2-1 before the untimely injury to Harvey brought a premature end to a game that was could have gone either way.

For the unfortunate referee Fear it was her second game on the league and the second she had to abandon, the other one being the game between Heytesbury and Calne Eagles.
