DARREN Perrin insists that he’s enjoying Melksham Town’s purple patch but says that he remains cautious of the day it all comes crashing down for his team.

Melksham, who hammered Bournemouth Poppies 8-1 in the FA Vase earlier this month, hit the goal trail once again on Saturday as they hammered Winterbourne United 6-1, with Dan King scoring a brace whilst Ash Barnett, Dan Griffiths, Gary Higdon and Dan Kovacs were all also on the scoresheet.

Perrin’s men make the trip to Bitton this weekend and the Melksham manager is keen to guard against complacency, despite his side’s irresistible recent form.

“We’ve hit a lot of form at the moment and everything we’re hitting is going in. It’s not as though we’re missing a lot of chances,” said Perrin.

“We had another big crowd at home on the weekend and we’ve got so many goals in the team with the likes of Higdon, Kovacs, King, (Ben) Thomson and the like.

“Yet another thing going our way is the fact that (Dave) Thompson, (Shaun) Benison and (Luke) Smith are all three or four weeks away from full fitness. Thomson will also be back this weekend and that gives me a big decision to make.

“I’m not trying to play it down but I’m just very guarded because I know things are going to change – it won’t be long until we’re on the end of a bad decision or a missed penalty and it’s going to hurt us.

“We’ve got an extremely tough game at Bitton coming up and it could well happen there. I’m just warning against complacency at the moment.”
