WOOTTON Bassett Town’s interest in the FA Vase came to an end last weekend as they suffered a home extra-time defeat to Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Abingdon United.
Dan Bailey opened the scoring for Paul Braithwaite’s men as he slotted home after getting on the end from a Richie Carter free-kick but a Graeme Edney penalty levelled things up minutes later and eventually forced extra-time.
Andy Younie put the visitors ahead before James Skinner got Bassett back on level terms when he poked home at the far post from Ryan Thomas’ cross but with 108 minutes on the clock, Abingdon grabbed their winner as Edney struck his second of the afternoon to dump Braithwaite’s side out of the competition.
