CHIPPENHAM Park chief Dave Ferris is hoping that his team’s FA Vase victory over Whitchurch United on Sunday can ‘reignite’ their season.

Josh Ferguson’s extra-time winner booked Park a trip to Ardley United, who were beaten 1-0 by stablemates Chippenham Town in the FA Cup last month, in the first round proper.

Mark Robinson’s strike cancelled out Rob Pocock’s own goal before Sydenhams League Premier Division Whitchurch went 2-1 up before half-time, capitalising on an unfortunate injury to Luke Murden, who had the wind knocked out of his sails after being struck in the groin by the ball.

But Robinson hit his fifth goal in four games to force extra-time before Ferguson popped up with the winner.

“We’ve been playing well in recent weeks but for once, we did what we haven’t been doing and that was scoring more goals than the opposition,” said Ferris.

“We beat very competent team from a league higher than ourselves and I think that we could have gone on for another half an hour at the end of the game whilst Whitchurch looked out on their feet.

“My Park lads worked so hard and hopefully this result can reignite things for us.”
