PEWSEY Vale boss Nick Maggs was pleased to see is team get back to winning ways in the Salisbury & District Hospital Cup last weekend.
Vale, who had suffered six losses on the trot going in to Saturday’s tie, claimed a 3-1 victory over Andover New Street, despite losing goalkeeper Richard Payne to injury midway through the second period.
Goals from Tom Whitham and Dan Sloan sandwiched a strike from Andover’s Shane Ready before Payne was forced off following a challenge by an opposition player, with Richie Franklin forced to fill in between the sticks.
But Whitham’s second of the afternoon settled any late nerves.
“We didn’t play particularly great but the important thing was that we got the win,”said Maggs.
