CHIPPENHAM Park boss Dave Ferris says that the glass is half-full after his side picked up three points in the first week of the new season.

Park slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Wincanton Town on Saturday, with Mark Robinson levelling matters before the home side weathered the storm and fashioned a winner at the other end.

But, on Tuesday night, Ferris’s men found their scoring boots as they thrashed Portishead Town 6-2 at Hardenhuish Park.

Josh Ferguson netted twice, with his second coming from the penalty spot, whilst Dan Smith, Phil Baker, Ollie Webb and Luke Holborough all got themselves on the scoresheet.

“At the end of the day, the fact that we’ve only got three points from two games rankles with us a little bit and the players understand that,” said Park boss Ferris.

“I’ve got no doubt that Wincanton will be one of the sides that will be up in the top four or five this season but their goals came from two silly mistakes – in the second half, we literally hit the bar three “On Tuesday, we were unbelievable for 50 minutes and absolutely annihilated Portishead, who are a good side.

“But it was a bit unfair to Lewis Porter in goal because, after not having anything to do, he conceded two goals late in the second half, which came from errors.

“Three points out of six is very much a glass half-full situation for us.”
