TOOLSTATION LEAGUE FIRST DIVISION: Calne Town 0 Corsham Town 2
Updated 9:50am Monday 14th April 2014 in Football
JASON Henley’s stunning strike stole the show and inspired in-form Corsham Town to a comfortable 2-0 win at local rivals Calne Town on Saturday, writes Carl Field.
Henley’s free-kick set Trevor Rawlings’ side on their way five minutes after the break, before Nick Holton secured maximum points with 20 minutes remaining.
The win also stretched Corsham’s impressive unbeaten run in the league to 15 games.
The first half offered very little in terms of goalmouth action, although Calne keeper Jamie Bartlett pulled off a terrific save at full stretch to thwart Liam Brown’s 35-yard effort six minutes before the break.
Chances were few and far between for the home side, although Marcus Lovesey will know he should have done better after heading wide from a Glenn Armstrong delivery four minutes after the re-start.
That missed opportunity proved costly for Calne as, just a minute later, the visitors took the lead when Henley struck a sweet free-kick which beat Bartlett’s despairing dive and nestled in the top right hand corner.
Armstrong saw an effort tipped over by Corsham stopper Mark Billingsley on 65 minutes, before Holton doubled Corsham’s lead five minutes later, tapping home from close range after Gary Banks had driven the ball low across the six-yard box.
