Coca Cola League Two

Swindon Town 1 Hereford United 2

Swindon caretaker/manager Ady Williams welcomed back central defender Jerel Ifil after suspension, which allowed the boss the luxury to watch the match from the bench.

New loan goalkeeping signing Andy Lonergan from Preston took his place in the starting line-up as Phil Smith took a back seat, and both Christian Roberts and Paul Evans returned from injury.

But the afternoon ended with the temporary boss' second defeat in eight days as Town fell at the hands of Hereford United.

Swindon dominated the opening twenty minutes, with the best chance of the opening exchanges seeing John Eustace clear Lee Peacock's seventh minute header from under the bar after an Aaron Brown corner.

Then from a succession of further corners, an overhead kick from Jerel Ifil and a header from Aaron Brown were both confidently dealt with by namesake visiting keeper Wayne Brown.

The game sprang into life in the 32nd minute when Michael Pook's long ball was collected by Roberts who headed home for his third goal of the season.

But the lead was short lived.

Just two minutes later Hereford's Andy Williams found Stuart Fleetwood who cantered down the left wing to cross to Williams once more. His volley past Lonergan squared the scoring and within a minute the Town keeper was forced into a point blank save from Eustace.

The second half started with Town again enjoying most of the possession as a combination between Lee Peacock and Roberts ended with the ball squirming under keeper Brown and was somehow cleared off the line for a corner.

Further chances for Peacock and Roberts again went begging as it began to look as though it might not be Swindon's day.

Then with nine minutes left, Andy Williams scored the goal that won the game for the visitors.

Skinning right back Jack Smith, Williams steered the ball under the oncoming Lonergan to claim his second goal of the match and all three points for the visitors

FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round

Chippenham Town 3 Didcot Town 3

Hardenhuish saw the arrival of visitors Didcot Town in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy and few would have predicted a match that had so many twists and turns.

The Bluebirds found themselves a goal down after just 70 seconds when a mistake by Alex Stanley allowed Jamie Brooks to break down the right and supply the ball that Stuart Beavon turned past goalkeeper Chris Snoddy.

Barely five minutes more had passed before Paul Powell played Brooks through for him to steer home through the legs of Snoddy from an acute angle.

Chippenham slowly came to terms with their horrendous start and after 37 minutes Dave Gilroy knocked in a ball from Griffin to reduce the arrears and leave the half time score 2-1 to Didcot.

With Sean Seavill replacing the off-form Stanley, Chippenham came close to squaring things when Andy Parrott's header hit the bar just before the hour mark but just minutes later Ross Adams played on Andy Garner to head past Didcot keeper Chris Webb to tie the match at 2-2.

Adams was involved again after 68 minutes when the Bluebirds appeared to have completed a remarkable comeback.

Adams' ball to Seavill allowed the latter to cross for Griffin to head in off the bar and Chippenham seemed destined for the next round of the FA Trophy.

But on 73 minutes Beavon claimed his second of the match for the Oxfordshire side, rifling home past Snoddy from eight yards out to set up a replay on Tuesday evening.

Toolstation Western League Premier Division

Devizes 2 Bideford 0

Saturday's match between Devizes Town and Bideford represented a fifth versus sixth encounter and the Nursteed Road match ended victorious for the home side. With Bideford the defending champions and Devizes unbeaten at home, the game always looked likely to be a big one.

Top scorer Nick Stanley claimed the goal that gave Devizes the lead, firing home a free-kick from 25 yards after 28 minutes and Simon Drewett secured the win with a 55th minute strike.

The win, that cements Devizes' unbeaten home run, saw the two-point gap between the two teams increased to five as the home side continued their useful start to the season.

Calne 4 Torrington 2

The Lillywhites entertained Torrington at Bremhill View and emerged with a comfortable win over the team who started the day level bottom of the Toolstation table. Having so far had a torrid season, the visitors had taken just five points from the first ten matches of the season

An early solo goal from Luke Gullick opened the scoring for the home side, but a sloppy equaliser after ten minutes brought the visiting team level. Worse was to come when a penalty after half an hour gave the visitors the lead, but James Lye restored parity to take the two teams into the half time break at 2-2.

It was Lye who was on target again 15 minutes from the end to give manager Robbie Lardner some breathing space, and the game was wrapped up in the final ten minutes when Gullick also completed his brace to conclude what had been a good second half performance.
