WORTON rider Anne Dunham helped Great Britain retain their European title and picked up an individual silver medal at the FEI European Para-Dressage Championships in Deauville, France.

The team triumph saw Great Britain not only retain their crown, but head into next year’s Paralympic Games as the undefeated Paralympic, World and European team champions.

Anne Dunham was the first of the two British Grade Ia riders in the afternoon’s class, she and LJT Lucas Normark clinching a final score of 76.261% to finish compatriot Sophie Christiansen and claim an individual silver medal.

Five-time Paralympic gold medallist Dunham said: "I was really pleased with him and he was really pleased with himself at the end, he turned (to the people applauding at the side of the arena) with a ‘is that for me’.

"He was really lovely and genuine. It’s still a massive thrill to get on the podium; I’m 67 next week, and I’m loving every minute of it, it still feels as good as when I first started. My daughter (Amber) is here grooming, my sister (Gill) is here as my carer and they’re such an important part, they’re all brilliant and without them I couldn’t do it.”

Britain clinched five individual medals in total.
