NOT content with the accolade of becoming the youngest showjumping judge in the country, Hattie Aspell-Willington is now planning to go international with her exploits.

The 19-year-old, from Great Cheverell, became the youngest level one judge on record with the BSJA (British Show Jumping Association) in August last year and is now planning to broaden her horizons in Ireland and the USA with the help of a new sponsor.

Luxury lodge company Eleven Experience, founded by American businessman Chad Pike, who owns The Three Daggers pub in Edington where Aspell-Willington works as a waitress, have agreed to support the Wiltshire youngster as she aims to continue her ascent through the judging ranks.

“The owner of The Three Daggers took quite a big interest in what I was doing and wanted to help me out,” said Aspell-Willington, who is learning to speak German to aid her international prospects.

“His company is quite a prestigious one that does big luxury lodges in America and it’s going to help with the cost of travelling and getting hotels and it means that I’ll be able to accept offers to judge that are further afield.

“They’re a prestigious company who only currently sponsor one other person, who’s a skier in Colorado – it’s going to really help. I want to do my level two (BJSA) qualification at the end of the summer but my plan is to go abroad to judge before then.

“I’ll be going to Ireland on March 3 for a month. I’ll hopefully get to go to the Dublin Horse Show but I’ll be based in Kilkenny and I’ll be pretty flexible. If someone offers me something, I should be able to go to it. It’s exciting because I’ll be going on my own and the plan after that is to try and go to the USA, which my sponsor may be able to help with. It would be amazing to be the youngest judge in the UK, Ireland and the US.”
