CHIPPENHAM Town boss Mark Collier says the calibre of their latest signing reflects the progression the club have made in recent years.

After snaring striker Jack Compton from National League South rivals Bath City last week, the Bluebirds have agreed a deal to bring midfielder Yan Klukowski back to Hardenhuish Park for a third time.

Collier discovered the 31-year-old would be available at the end of the campaign earlier in the season, but had to stay patient in order to get his man.

“I was aware that he was available towards the end of last season, but with all good players, who have a track record like his, there were a lot of teams in for him,” he said.

“We had some conversations for a couple of weeks or so and we were able to sign him. It’s a great signing for us.

“He brings a lot of quality and experience to the team and he is as fit as a 21-year -old. One thing he does is look after himself in an immaculate manner.

“He also lives locally so has that affinity to the club. I think we have got a great signing on our hands and I am looking forward to working with him.

“Yan met the chairman (Neil Blackmore) as well and I think the ambition we have at the club is why he chose to come here.”

Collier has also signed up former Yeovil Town and Newport County striker Compton, who made the switch from Twerton Park, to add further fire power to his team.

An impressive end to the season for Bath sparked interest from Collier, who is satisfied with his first signing of the summer.

He said: “Compton did particularly well at the end of the season, especially in the game against us, so it was a case of making contact at the right time and we managed to do that.”

The Bluebirds have also added to their pre-season calendar as they have agreed to face Newport County at Hardenhuish Park on Saturday, July 14.

Town’s pre-season fixtures sees them host Swindon Town on Tuesday, July 17 (7.45pm) and travel to Melksham Town on Saturday, July 21 (3pm).

The Bluebirds go to Cirencester Town on Tuesday, July 24 (7.30pm) and Yate Town on Saturday, July 28 (3pm).
