MARK Collier hopes to turn a good season into a successful one by landing Chippenham Town’s first piece of silverware this season.

After securing the club’s National League South status for next season, Collier has spent the last month experimenting with his side’s formation.

But the former Swindon Supermarine boss will approach tonight’s Wiltshire Senior Cup final against Highworth Town at Swindon Town's County Ground (7.45pm) properly, adding Chippenham must respect Jeff Roberts’ side.

He said: “We’ll approach this game like any other, we’ll be ready to go for it.

“We’ve been away for a couple of games but the same can apply to Highworth.

“It’s a cup final for us and an even bigger cup final for them. We respect Highworth as a team and we’ll have to look after ourselves.”

Collier pinpointed Highworth’s experience in Ross Adam and Chris Taylor as their strong point having played in the top level of non-league football before.

“We need to respect Highworth, they’re a banana skin we can slip up on,” said Collier.

“I went to watch them play Thatcham and they changed their formation around a little then, so we’ll have to see what they go with tomorrow.

“They’ve got goals and experience in the squad though.

“We won’t quite be at full strength, but we’ll put a competitive side out that will entertain supporters.”

Highworth boss Jeff Roberts believes his side can cause an upset as they look to make up for the heartache that resulted from last year’s final after Highworth were downed 2-1 by Swindon Supermarine.

And while Roberts is optimistic about his side’s chances, he admits his men must be on top form if they are to threaten a strong Chippenham team.

“Obviously there are three divisions between us and Mark (Collier) has done a great job with the team and subsequently rewarded with a two-year contract,” said Roberts.

“We go into the game as massive underdogs, but if we play to our full potential we will give them a game.

“They’ve got quality in the side and if we make mistakes we’ll get punished, that’s been our problem in the Hellenic League this season.”

While Roberts enters tonight’s fixture with a full squad of 16 at his disposal, Chippenham boss Mark Collier is expected to field a weaker team with one eye already on next season’s National League South campaign.

Roberts added: “The lads are looking forward to it.

“We’ve got a full squad of 16 available, but they will have to turn up on the day if we’re to stand a chance.

“The County Ground will suit us, we can get the ball moving and it’s a great place to play football.

“We were unlucky last year, and we want to make amends. If our attitude and mentality is right, we stand a chance.”
