CHIPPENHAM Town cashed in as they ran riot in the FA Cup first qualifying round against previously unbeaten Wessex Premier League side Moneyfields .

The visitors from Portsmouth tried to throw the Bluebirds off their stride by adopting a physical approach but for much of the game they were left chasing shadows.

Dave Pratt notched his first hat-trick since returning to Hardenhuish Park whilst their were doubles for Andy Sandell and Alan Griffin whilst Alex Ferguson and a rare goal from Mark Preece made it nine at Hardenhuish Park for the first time since their Hellenic League days, although Chippenham did hit nine at Westbury United in the early 1980's.

After Matt Jones and Sandell had seen early efforts blocked the home side took the lead on six minutes when the former crossed for the latter to powerfully head home.

A Jones corner saw Will Richards's header blocked on the line whilst Chris Allen's 40-yard shot was palmed down by Matt Shortt.

Chippenham doubled their lead on 24 minutes but only after Kent Kauppinen had prevented an equaliser when he got a boot to Gary Austin's close range shot.

The ball was cleared down field to Pratt who outpaced a chasing defender before hitting a left-footed shot that left Shortt motionless.

Sandell and Ferguson were both off target with efforts whilst Kauppinen easily held Robbie Pitman's attempted chip shot.

Pratt then headed a Sandell cross straight at Shortt whilst at the other end Money's skipper Steve Hutchings headed over.

With the visitors still threatening a comeback Pratt scored a crucial third goal in stoppage time, tapping home from a foot out after some sublime work on the left by Ferguson.

Ferguson was narrowly off target on fifty six minutes when the Hampshire side failed to deal with a central free kick and although he lifted his shot over a crowd of defenders it was just too high.

A minute later it was four as Sandell sent in a rasping 35-yard drive that gave Shortt no chance.

Just after the hour Pratt was denied when his effort was ruled out for offside. Pratt hit his third on 66 minutes when he guided a headed effort across Shortt again from a Jones cross.

Mark Collier then introduced Andy Jenkinson, Mark Preece and Alan Griffin from the substitutes bench and he was to be rewarded as Chippenham hit four goals in a six-minute spell. On 74 minutes Sandell found Preece whose measured cross to the far post was headed home by Ferguson.

Three minutes later Preece got his name on the scoresheet when Shortt failed to hold his near post drive and the ball squirmed over the line. Hardly before the crowd had finished cheering Griffin made it eight with a delicate left-footed chip from just inside the area.

Griffin then had the crowd in raptures when he lobbed Shortt from inside the centre circle on 84 minutes. With the Hardenhuish faithful baying for ten Shortt won the applause of the crowd when he saved Jones's shot and then blocked another Griffin effort.

The visiting stopper again excelled when he touched behind a Griffin header.

The Bluebirds were denied any further time when referee James Durkin blew for time seconds short of the 90-minute mark, allowing no stoppage time despite a combined five second-half substitutions and an injury to a visiting player.
