CHIPPENHAM'S play off hopes were dealt a severe blow when they went down to a late, late goal in an uninspiring derby with Cirencester.

As the Bluebirds went three up front in an effort to grab a late winner, Cirencester's Adam Connolly came off the bench in the 90th-minute to score the winning goal five minutes later.

Far too many Chippenham players had an off day in a match that often resembled an end of season game.

Cirencester had the first chance when Brad Hooper's fourth minute shot cleared the bar.

A minute later James Guthrie's shot lacked the power to trouble Josh Langley, on nine minutes Andy Sandell was through on goal but chose to hit his shot early and was off target.

On the quarter of an hour mark former Bluebird Charlie Griffin fired wide, five minutes later Jon Beedon's raking cross found Alan Griffin and his 30-yard drive was turned over by Langley.

From the resulting Michael Pook corner Greg Tindle's header was palmed away by Langley and the resulting James Guthrie corner saw Tindle head over.

Chippenham lost Jon Beedon on 28 minutes after a clash of heads with Charlie Griffin. A 35th-minute free kick would not come down for Alan Griffin and he hooked the ball over.

Langley then saved a Sandell effort whilst Charlie Griffin prodded a high ball wide and Alex Dinsmore's shot was deflected wide.

After the break a long throw saw Alan Griffin nudge the ball wide, whilst Matt Smith's 30-yard shot was off target.

On 64 minutes Guthrie's shot was deflected into the side netting. Eleven minutes from time a Guthrie free kick ended with substitute Alec Fiddes lobbing over.

On 82 minutes Pook's free kick saw substitute Ollie Taylor's close range header superbly saved by Langley.

A chipped shot from Zak Kotwica went wide of the home goal whilst Fiddes cut in but shot across the face of goal.

As Chippenham continued to pour forward they were caught out in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Cirencester broke away to take the three points.
