CHIPPENHAM Town came from two goals down to rescue a draw last night but their promotion push suffered a hiccup as they dropped points against Chesham United.

The first clear cut chance of the evening fell to Chesham’s Nick Beasant, son of former Wimbledon keeper Dave, who fired wide.

At the other end, Beasant was prominent as he blocked a Bluebirds effort before Ryan Blake and Dave Pearce then combined for the Generals, with the latter shooting across the face of goal.

The visitors took the lead on 18 minutes when the Bluebirds failed to clear a corner and Blake stabbed the ball home.

A combination of Shane Gore and poor finishing then protected the Generals’ lead and three minutes before the break, a poor clearance from Kent Kauppinen fell to Kelvin Bossman 35 yards out and he fired home Chesham’s second.

Chippenham reduced the deficit in the opening minute of the second half when Gore’s punch fell to Alan Griffin and he turned the ball home.

The Bluebirds then increased the pressure as they searched for an equaliser and it finally came on 65 minutes when a series of corners saw skipper Greg Tindle head home.

As both sides went for a winner, Kauppinen held a header from Bossman whilst Gore pulled off a double save at the other end but the spoils were shared.

Mark Collier’s men renew hostilities with Chesham in their next outing on Saturday as they make the trip to Buckinghamshire.
