CHIPPENHAM Town frontman Andy Sandell says the high-flying Bluebirds are all singing from the same hymn sheet as their promotion push shows no signs of deviating from its ascension.

Only Dunstable Town have won more games in their last 10 league outings than Mark Collier’s men, who are currently second in the Southern League Premier Division table and have only been beaten once in that sequence.

Chippenham could have found themselves top of the pile this week, had they racked up a fifth straight victory at struggling Paulton Rovers but a waterlogged pitch put paid to their trip to Somerset on Tuesday.

Instead, the Bluebirds will look to heap further pressure on leaders Poole Town when they host King’s Lynn Town on Saturday.

Top scorer Sandell took his tally for the season to 19 with a brace in last weekend’s 3-0 win over Histon and the former Newport County man thinks the Chippenham management team deserve credit for assembling a squad that are harmonising so potently.

“We’re playing well and the lads are all enjoying their football – they’re all buzzing,” said Sandell.

“We’re in a good position and a lot of the other teams have games in hand but I don’t think that they have big squads in this league, so playing two games a week and winning them is going to be tough for them.

“I don’t think that we’re going to score three or four goals every week. We’ll take a few 1-0s to carry on winning and if we entertain as well, then that’s great. I think a lot credit has to go to the gaffer and Tom (Jones).

“They’re playing the right people in the right positions and have brought in the right people.

“Sometimes, you can have good players but they can be difficult to deal with – nobody’s like that in our squad.

“We’re all together as a team and spend a lot of time together too. We go for a drink together or play cards and things like that.”

Sandell is relishing his partnership with friend and strike partner Alan Griffin, who has notched five times since returning in December.

Sandell said: “I think that Griffo coming back from Malmesbury has been a big boost for us. For me, it’s great to play with my best mate. He wins the headers – I just tell him where I want him to head the ball to – and I play off him. We’re both scoring goals and that’s great.”
