CHIPPENHAM Town hit four goals for the second week running, but on this occasion the opposition scored three to make this cracking match a real nail-biter for the large crowd in the second half.

The Bluebirds twice held a two-goal cushion but were pegged back to 2-2 before from 4-2 the visitors could only manage one more goal although Ben Mackey hit the woodwork two minutes from time.

In the opening half it looked like the Brakes were content to waste time and hit Chippenham on the break.

Such was the case in the opening minute when Mackey hooked the ball forward and Rob Ogleby forced Kent Kauppinen into a save.

Chippenham hit back with Matt Smith heading the ball down for Alan Griffin to shoot over, whilst Andy Sandell’s long throw found Griffin who turned and shot into the side netting.

Chippenham put the visitors under increasing pressure and on the half hour Griffin knocked down to Sandell whose shot cannoned off the angle of post and crossbar.

They took the lead on 36 minutes when Smith’s dinked chip saw Sandell power a header past Tony Breeden.

Two minutes later that lead was doubled as Sandell’s shot was blocked and Griffin was the quickest to react as he nudged the ball under the Brakes’ keeper.

Leamington pulled a goal back on 66 minutes when a cross from the left was headed home by towering striker Jack Edwards.

The Brakes gained parity two minutes later when substitute Ross Oulton found Mackey on the edge of the area and he turned and fired a low shot past Kent Kauppinen.

Chippenham were back in front on 72 minutes when a scramble at a Michael Pook corner ended with Alex Ferguson hitting home from close range.

Six minutes later Griffin grabbed his second and an all important fourth when a Brakes defender could only steer Sandell’s cross into his path and he rammed home from close quarters.

The visitors however, were still not finished as a long throw six minutes from time was headed home by Jamie Tank to give the Bluebirds' second largest league crowd of the season a nervy finish.
