CHIPPENHAM Town made light of the persistent heavy Oxfordshire rain to produce a slick performance at Alfredian Park.

Andy Sandell wasted no time in adding to his debut goal last week when he glanced home a deep ball from another new boy Matt Jones inside the opening minute.

The latter also opened his Chippenham account and a further goal from Sandell and a second half strike from Ashan Holgate capped an impressive display.

Sandell almost doubled the lead on 10 minutes when his firmly struck free kick was well-saved by the home keeper.

The second arrived on 17 minutes when Jones picked the ball up 30 yards out and beat a defender before rifling home from just outside the area.

Sandell’s shot then deflected off the keeper, before Lee Phillips was unfortunate to see his 39th minute shot ruled out for off-side.

Two minutes before the break a defensive error allowed Sandell a free run on goal and he raced in to beat the advancing keeper to net his second and Chippenham’s third.

The second half opened with Phillips going past the Wantage keeper but his shot was blocked on the line by a covering defender.

As the rain increased in intensity Ashan Holgate latched on to a long 65th minute clearance and rounded the keeper before slotting home.

Chippenham strived for a fifth but Sandell’s shot was held whilst substitute Ryan Campbell’s long shot was palmed over the bar.
