BLUEBIRDS boss Mark Collier is pleased with the goal-scoring talent at his disposal after Andy Sandell seamlessly slotted in to his front line.

Former Newport County captain Sandell netted on his first appearance since signing for Chippenham Town last week, scoring in the weekend’s 3-0 victory at Corsham Town, with headers from Mark Preece and Ashan Holgate also finding the mark.

Doubts remain over the futures of Mark Francis, who has been featuring for Swindon Supermarine during pre-season, and Jack Odam, who is out of the country until the eve of the upcoming campaign, but Collier is happy with his options.

“I don’t know if Mark Francis has signed for Supermarine yet if I’m honest and Jack is away coaching in America right until the start of the season, so we’ll see if we can renew things when he’s back,” said the Chippenham manager.

“But I’m comfortable with the players we’ve got.

“We’ve got Ashan Holgate and Lee Phillips, who looked very good in his first game back last weekend – he missed almost a whole season.

“Andy Sandell looked good as well. His natural position was a striker when he first signed for a pro club and he’s done everything we’ve asked so far.

“All those three can score goals and also set up opportunities for other players to score goals too. We’ve got good back up too because Alex Ferguson or Luke Ballinger can play there too.

“Jordan Roberts is due to see the consultant about his knee at the end of this week, so we should know if we need to get some cover for him.”

Chippenham’s next friendly is away to Wantage Town on Friday evening (7.45pm) but Abingdon Town have pulled out of their scheduled clash with the Bluebirds on Tuesday, August 4.
