CHIPPENHAM Town moved to 13th in the table as they leapfrogged their Berkshire visitors with two second-half goals.

The sides were well-matched in the first half although it was the Rebels, with the advantage of the slope and breeze, who should have turned around in the lead, as they bombarded the home goalmouth with a series of long throws from Gary Hollis.

The visitors’ best chance came as early as the sixth minute when the Rebels had three chances in a goalmouth scramble that ended with Jon Beeden stopping Billy Jeffery’s shot on the line.

Kent Kauppinen saved Reece Yorke’s effort from ten yards whilst the keeper also held Josh Parsons’ long-range effort.

Kauppinen then pushed a Hollis effort around a post. Whilst just before the break Adam Martin was unfortunate when his goalbound shot hit Greg Tindle.

The Bluebirds fashioned two half-chances through Jack Odam and Jordan Roberts.

After the break the balance swung in Chippenham’s favour and after a period of sustained pressure, that saw chances fall to Roberts, Odam and Bryan Smith, they took the lead on 59 minutes when a high ball into the box eventually fell at the feet of Roberts who drove a low shot past Luke Williams.

Alex Ferguson doubled the lead on 71 minutes when he weaved his way to the edge of the area before exchanging passes with Roberts and he too beat Williams with a low shot.

Odam should have added a third when he skied over with the goal beckoning, whilst Michael Pook’s free kick was also too high.

Kauppinen ensured the points would go to the Wiltshire side when he saved Ed Smith’s well-struck shot whilst Josh Parsons side-footed over the bar with Kauppinen stranded.

The only downside for the Bluebirds was a booking for Greg Tindle, who was returning from suspension, in a match that was well refereed by Lisa Rashid, from Birmingham.
