ASHAN Holgate’s first two goals for Chippenham Town helped the Bluebirds record their second league double of the season as they made heavy weather of despatching lowly Dorchester Town.

Holgate’s brace, his first a seventeenth minute penalty and a second a minute before the interval, appeared to be making the second half a formality with Mark Collier’s men due to kick down the Hardenhuish Park slope.

However, a stoppage time goal from Nathan Walker meant the home supporters were in for a nervy second half.

Lee Phillips' second minute shot on the turn went narrowly wide. The Magpies then hit back through efforts from Matt Oldring and Dan Smith.

But the Bluebirds opened their account when Alex Ferguson was brought down in the area by Walker and Holgate fired home the resultant penalty for his first goal in a Chippenham shirt.

Chippenham's injury jinx then struck again, with Conor McCormack limping off to be replaced by Mark Francis.

A Dorchester chance went begging as Ben Watson headed at Kent Kauppinen when well placed beforethe home side doubled their lead.

With centre-back Oldring off the pitch receiving treatment for a head injury, Michael Pook played a low free-kick behind the defence for Holgate to run on to and slide past Shane Murphy.

But Dorchester halved the arrears when the ball was only half-cleared from a throw-in and Walker's low shot went through a crowd of players and into the net.

After the break, Dorchester pressed hard for an equaliser, with Smith firing over and Watson forcing Kauppinen into a save.

At the other end, Toby Osman fired wide after Dorchester failed to deal with a long Pook throw.

On 78 minutes, Francis cut in from the right but his left-footed shot flew over the bar.

Neither side created a serious chance in the final quarter of an hour and Chippenham were able to claim their eighth win of the season.
