Legge raises the bar at Devizes
Cricket: New Devizes cricket captain Pat Legge is upset with the club languishing in the Wiltshire League -and is ready to let people know about it.
The club avoided relegation from the Wiltshire League despite finish bottom after two Gloucester League sides being relegated meant no Wiltshire side could go down.
But Legge, who returned to the club last season as coach, believes the whole club needs to improve ahead of their home derby clash with Potterne on Saturday.
"I last played in 2003 and I came back to the club last year and was very disappointed in where the club had gone," he said.
"I want to really get them to understand how poorly things have gone in the last four years."
Sri Lankan all rounder Nipuna Rathnayake, who has starred for Devizes over the last two seasons will not return and Legge believes it will make the side stronger.
He said: "I felt they relied too much on Nipuna and if he was out, heads would drop very quickly.
"Now it has got to the stage where everyone needs to take more responsibility on and off the pitch."
Phil Cox has joined the side but without Rathnayake, Legge will be looking to youth for inspiration.
He said: "Some of the youngsters from last year's second team are going to be given more responsibility because I don't think they have been given the opportunity yet.
"We can definitely finish in the top five but I think we can finish in the top two and really push for promotion."
