Dawson ready for World Cup

Cricket: Liam Dawson is preparing for the biggest moment of his young career as he gears up for the start of the U19 World Cup on Sunday.

The former Wiltshire and Chippenham all rounder, from Hazel Grove in Calne, is set to face Ireland in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with England and is staggered at how big the competition is.

"It's a pretty huge thing over here for the locals to have a World Cup and there's a buzz around all the teams," said the 17-year-old.

"We can't wait to get the group games under way."

The Hampshire player has found some form with the bat, scoring 25 not out as England surprised tournament favourites Pakistan, beating them by four wickets on Monday.

The national side have had a successful warm-up to the tournament, beating Sri Lanka and Pakistan in one day internationals, which Dawson says has left confidence high.

"We have found a bit of form in the last week in Sri Lanka, beating them 2-1 in the three ODIs which we played which was a bonus and gave all the lads a massive confidence boost," he said. "Beating Pakistan on Monday was a great result for us too."
