CRICKET: Goatacre through to national last 16

GOATACRE are through to the last 16 of the Yorkshire Tea Village Cup after romping past Cornish side Stithians in round five yesterday.

The villagers cruised through by seven wickets as the competition reached its national stages.

Goatacre, who reached the final at Lord's in 1988 and 1990, winning the competition on the first occasion, won the toss and put their opponents in before dismissing them for just 137.

Glen Furnival top scored for the visitors with 37, but Brad Dawson led the bowling effort with 3-44 from eight overs.

There were two wickets each for Matthew House, Craig Gibbens and Kevin Iles.

Goatacre knocked off the required runs inside 29 overs, a fourth-wicket partnership of 71 from Luke Edwards (37no) and Jack Haines 46no proving decisive.

Goatacre will travel to face either Somerset's Wembdon or Hampshire's Paultons in last 16 clash on Sunday, July 15.
