Women’s cricket has been given a boost in Wiltshire by the arrival of former Australian coach Lisa Keightley, appointed to promote the sport in the county.
Test and one-day international opener Keightley, 38, will be visiting schools, recruiting players and offering support to clubs.
Her new job may lack the highprofile of previous appointments, but Keightley, who was the only full-time women’s coach in Australia, is relishing the challenge.
She said: “I always wanted to come and play over here but never got the chance. I was on holiday here last year and the job came up and decided I would like the opportunity of working in the UK.
“I’m really looking forward to promoting cricket in Wiltshire.”
Keightley, who has a three- year contract, has been visiting schools and will be coaching U15 and U13 sides.
She will also be working with clubs, helping with recruitment, coaching and spotting talent.
Keightley is hoping to capitalise on the England’s achievements. They top the women’s world rankings.
She said: “Their success certainly makes my job a bit easier.”
