BURBAGE & Easton Royal had Wiltshire rivals Corsham in a spin on Saturday as they earned a 41-run win on the road in Premier Two Glos/Wilts.

Having posted a below-par total of 124 in 40 overs, Burbage were indebted to spinners Henry Cooper (4-30) and Adam Lavis (3-11) as they cut short the Corsham reply for 83 after just 22 overs.

Burbage captain David Cope said: “It was a day for spinners.

“I am not sure if Corsham prepare their wicket for that especially, but there were four or five good spin bowlers on display across both teams and they ended up taking the majority of wickets.

“Both innings followed the same pattern. Once the first few wickets went down, the rest followed at regular intervals.”

Alongside his four wickets, Cooper also top scored for Burbage, making 80 after the visitors had opted to bat first as Joe King (4-17) led the charge with the ball for Corsham.

He was one of only six batsmen to reach double figures on the day – the second best score coming from Corsham opener Tom Smith with 27.

“Henry’s knock was invaluable for us, it was probably the difference in the game,” added Cope.

“It was a bit disappointing we couldn’t support him a bit better. We just needed someone to hang in and help him out.

“I think 180 probably would have been a good score but we knew that if we got wickets early, we’d be right in with a chance and the guys bowled brilliantly.

“With two wins from three, we’re happy with how we’ve gone so far this season.

“It’s not been perfect by an means, and we’ve made life difficult for ourselves at times with the bat, but we’re content with how we’ve done.”

Elsewhere, Dwaine Perry’s unbeaten century helped Biddestone claim their first win of the season with a seven-wicket success away at Rockhampton.

Tyrone Isitt and Cameron Beath took three wickets each to restrict Rockhampton to 198 all out, with Guy Brothwood’s 83 the backbone of their innings after the home side had chosen to bat first.

Opener Perry then went on the attack as Biddestone started their reply, and he remained at the crease as the winning line was reached inside 25 overs.

Perry finished on 114 not out off just 72 balls, with 88 of those runs coming via boundaries.
