THE ladies section of Devizes Cricket Club rounded off the weekends games with a trip to over the border into Somerset to face Beckington.

Having won the toss, captain Jen Heppell decided to bat first and openers Verity Bartlett and Zoe Back took the score to 20 before Bartlett played on shortly afterwards with the score on 20.

The second wicket fell the following over; which brought club newcomer Emily Bogg to the crease to partner Emma Banham.

Each passed their 50 with relative ease and the partnership of 153 was finally broken when Bogg was bowled for 74 in the final over.

Captain Heppell came in to finish the innings off with five runs including a four from the final few balls of the over.

In reply, Beckington were unfortunate to lose early wickets and were 20-3 at the end of the seventh over.

Fine bowling from Trixie Beddoe and Amy Langan kept the home side restricted in the early stages and although Beckington batted through their 30 overs, Devizes ran out winners by 80 runs.

The ladies next match is away to local rivals Potterne on Friday (May 18).
