PHILIP Adams’ four wickets helped Chippenham start the WEPL Wiltshire season with back-to-back wins after a 48-run success away at Swindon.

Connor O’Shea had earlier impressed with the ball for Swindon, as his figures of 4-32 played a big part in bowling Chippenham out for 165. Steve Silk top scored for the visitors with 55.

Defending a low total, Adams then came to the fore as he took 4-24 to help dismiss the Swindon reply for just 117.

There was also a second successive victory for Royal Wootton Basset as they beat visitors Marlborough by eight wickets.

Harrison Painter scored 51 but Marlborough were only able to reach 154 after being inserted by Bassett, who made light work of their run chase, achieving their target with 15 overs to spare.

Jack Twine and Charanveer Chahal made unbeaten contributions of 61 and 58 respectively as Bassett finished on 158-2.

Marshfield got off the mark for the year with a 72-run success away at Devizes.

Captain James Williams hit 61 to help his side post a total of 203-9, with Oliver Parsons returning figures of 4-46.

Devizes never looked like chasing down that target as they were dismissed for 131 after 41 overs.

Marshfield skipper Williams said: “We lost our first game against Royal Wootton Bassett and we didn’t really give a good account of ourselves, so it was nice to bounce back from that.

“I thought 200 was a pretty good score. Devizes is a big ground and it was quite juicy on the outfield. That probably cost us about 40 runs, so to 200 was a good effort.

“Our problems against Bassett were with the ball. No one really clicked and it was just one of those days.

“We had Matt Cox back in the team against Devizes and we gave him the ball after a couple of overs and he got two or three really important wickets early on.”

Corsham could not halt Purton’s unbeaten start to the season as they lost their opening home game of 2018 by eight wickets.

Tom Bowler blitzed the Corsham batting line-up with a haul of 5-21 as the hosts were all out for 117.

The Purton ace then shone with the bat too as Bowler’s unbeaten 53 saw the visitors past the winning post in just the 23rd over, finishing on 120-2.

Like Corsham, Calne remain without a win after 134-run drubbing at home to Warminster.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Warminster were bowled out for 175 as Sean Adams claimed 4-30.

However, Dominic Webb’s brilliant 7-13 skittled the Calne reply for just 41, with Adams the only home batsman to reach double figures.
