BEN Mason sent champions Bear Flat tumbling in the battle of the title winners on the first full day of action in the Wiltshire League on Saturday.

Mason’s Potterne 2nd side, who were champions of Division Two last term, made an immediate impact in the top flight as they defeated the reigning Division One kings by nine wickets.

Mason took 5-5 in just six overs to wipe out the Bear top order, the Bath side eventually limping to 102-9. Jack Hurley’s unbeaten 48 then guided the villagers home inside 17 overs.

There was no joy for Nationwide House, who lost out by 48 runs to Hinton Charterhouse, Matt Parfitt scoring 58 and Henry Cheal 43 in Hinton’s 172-7.

House slipped to 124 all out in reply, Matt and James Jacob taking three wickets apiece.

Swindon 2nd defeated Malmesbury by four wickets, Malmesbury having made 206-7 with Jack Ward scoring 58 and Michael Collison 47.

Half-centuries from Christy Millar (56) and Paul Davies (55) got Swindon home with four balls to spare.

Josh Lewis took 4-22 and Simon Orchard 3-14 as Winsley skittled out Great Bedwyn for 98 inside 25 overs, Thomas Wheatley hitting 67 in the reply which secured a nine-wicket win.

Division Two

SWINDON United Churches defeated Warminster 2nd by nine wickets to set the early pace, Chris Spackman and James Mann each taking three wickets to dismiss the west Wiltshire side for 104.

Mann delivered with the bat too, hitting an unbeaten 63 to guide his side home inside 28 overs,

Swindon A reached 152 all out in their battle with Biddestone 2nd, James Parkinson scoring 41, while James Howells and Kieran Gash each took three wickets.

Charlie Chevis (3-19) and two wickets each for Parkinson and Andy Mildenhall did the damage as Biddestone were stopped at 93, Swindon prevailing by 59 runs.

Abrar Qureshi took 4-15 as Swindon Nalgo dismissed Chippenham 2nd for 152 in their clash, Imran Dastagir scoring an unbeaten 41 as Nalgo won by four wickets.

Beehive Southwick mustered 151-9 against Bath Hospitals, thanks to late hitting from Phil Stockley (35), Dan Hatcher taking 4-38. Stockley then excelled with the ball, taking 3-19, with two wickets each for Gary Collins, Pete Andrews and James Taylor as Hospitals fell 47 runs short on 104.

Division Three

MATT Henley took 3-53 and there were two wickets for Dean Bird and Dan Tadman as Marlborough 2nd reached 204-8 against Bradford on Avon, Nick Crabbe scoring 50.

Matt Harrington scored an unbeaten 73 and Lewis Green 65, Paul Vooght adding 43 not out late on as Bradford cruised to an eight-wicket triumph.

David Miles hit 52, Imraj Heer 47 and Thomas Ponting 44 as Goatacre 2nd amassed 238 all out against Potterne 3rd, John Andrew taking 5-39.

James Down scored 69 in the reply, but Christopher Watchman’s 4-20 stopped Potterne on 122.

Division Four

IAIN Bourne’s 5-38 helped Ramsbury dismiss Corsham 3rd for 158, despite Flynn Day’s 58 and 40 from Corey Harbour-Burgess, before Nick Jepson hit 61 not out as the reply reached 160-3 inside 41 overs.

Russell Lodge’s 98 in Marshsfield 2nd’s 194-8 against their Devizes counterparts proved in vain as James Dunford hit 82 to help Devizes (195-4) to a six-wicket success.

Division Five

MORGAN Marsh-Ballard struck 74 not out as Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd (198-5) defeated Bathford (196 all out) by five wickets.

Biddestone 3rd were all out for 75 inside 31 overs against Melksham, Gary Ings taking 4-7 and Jack Footner 4-28.

Melksham, who were celebrating their opening game at their new pavilion, soared to a nine-wicket success, Matt Hunt with an unbeaten 36.

Archie Scott was unbeaten on 77 in Collingbourne’s 209-7 against Westbury 2nd, who knocked off the runs for the loss of four wickets, Ben Whiting with 88 and Osmond Shallow 60.

Terry Evans took 3-38 to help Erlestoke dismiss Purton 2nd for 141, before they reached the target inside 32 overs for the loss of five wickets.

Division Six

HEYTESBURY & Sutton Veny were stopped at 114 in their clash with Winsley 2nd, for whom Niel Gibson scored an unbeaten 60 as they successfully replied for the loss of one wicket.

Division Seven

RITESH Patel scored a half-century in Trowbridge 2nd’s 109 all out, Ady Day taking 5-12 in seven overs for Beehive Southwick 2nd, but the reply collapsed to 67 all out, Sahil Basandrai (3-7) and Graham Booth (3-12) doing the damage.

Tom Dixon hit 72 and Damian Dixon an unbeaten 54 in Christian Malford’s 176-6 against Malmesbury 2nd, whose reply ended at 169-7 despite 51 from Ben Oakley.

Mark Turner (95) and Shah Farhaz (85) were the mainstays of Warminster 3rd’s 244-5 against Lacock 2nd, the reply subsiding to just 89 all out as Charlie O’Connor took 3-30.

Division Eight

GREG Smith took 3-14 for Chippenham 4th as Goatacre were all out for 101, Luke Stoneham scoring 42. Chippenham eased home inside 24 overs, Sandeep Patil scoring 35 in the reply.

Amanveer Singh Jagdey took 4-31 for Swindon B against Westbury 3rd (249-7) as Paul Gainey struck 90 and Adam Pothecary 74.

Harminder Jagdey scored 53 in the reply as Swindon were halted on 197-7.

Division Nine

MARK Banham took 4-34 for Devizes 3rd as Wanborough 2nd reached 204-9 in their 45 overs but despite Paul Stobbart’s 73 and 65 from Banham, Devizes fell an agonising three runs short of their target on 201-7.

Neil Gliddon’s 47 and an unbeaten 41 from Rory Howell got Winsley 3rd to 158-7 against Chippenham 5th, Richard Calloway striking 55 in reply as Chippenham (159-4) secured a six-wicket triumph.
