WILTSHIRE slipped to their fifth defeat in six Unicorns Championship Western Division matches as their summer ended with a six-wicket loss to Shropshire at Bridgnorth CC today.
The visitors were dismissed for 208 in their second innings today and Shropshire successfully chased down the 238 they required to win as their top order made Wiltshire's bowlers toil.
Resuming their second innings on 20-1 this morning, Wiltshire's top order were given the runaround by Shropshire's Dave Wainwright, who took 6-73 from 39 overs.
Only opener Steve Bullen made headway early on with 60 and an eighth-wicket partnership of 39 was required from Trowbridge's Mike Reynolds (43) and Tahir Afridi to help the away side towards the 200 mark, Sam Whitney taking 4-85 to mop up the tail.
The Shropshire win chase was boosted by a first-wicket stand of 95 between Steve Leach (57) and Joe Carrasco (44) and number three Will Parton's unbeaten knock of 73 off 65 balls proved decisive.
