JEREMY Bond was the hero for Marshfield on Saturday, scoring a century before taking five wickets as they thrashed Calne by 192 runs in WEPL Wiltshire.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, third-in-the-table Marshfield were in trouble early on as they slipped to 11-3.

Suffan Hassan (48) and Todd Richardson (77 not out) began to rally but the game really changed when the former fell.

That brought Bond to the crease and he plundered 109 off just 80 balls to help the home side post 260-8.

Bond was soon back the fore for Marshfield after tea, with a devastating spell of 5-25 ripping through the Calne top order before they eventually collapsed to 68 all out.

Marshfield stand-in skipper Will Pascall said: “Jeremy was fantastic, he took the attack to them.

“He has been in really good form for the last few weeks and I don’t think there is a better player in the league at the moment. With the bat, he has just been taking the game away from the opposition.

“We were in a bit of trouble but we had a couple of great partnerships and Jeremy’s scoring power really turned the game on its head.

“We are playing well at the moment and we have looked to promote youth players. I think the oldest player on Saturday was 24 so it bodes really well for the future that we can win games so comfortably with such a young side.”

Royal Wootton Bassett are one place below Marshfield in fourth following their 10-wicket win away at Great Bedwyn, which came thanks to Jared McDonald’s unbeaten century.

Opener Richard Bosson hit 73 for Bedwyn but Bassett – led by Akash Sharma’s 3-41 – restricted their hosts to 216-8 before Darren Beasant’s side responded with an unbroken first-wicket stand between McDonald (109 not out) and Sam Lawro (87 not out) to triumph with 10 balls to spare.

Marlborough were no match to leaders Trowbridge as they suffered a landslide 120-run defeat on home soil.

Zwelibanzi Homani took 3-46 as Trowbridge posted 236-9, with Matthew Hopkins top scoring on 68, but Marlborough could not cope with the bowling of George Reed when they made their reply as he took 6-25 as the hosts collapsed for just 116 inside 35 overs.

Devizes ran Warminster close when they travelled to the side sitting second in the table but were ultimately beaten by 26 runs.

Ben McGowan took 4-46 as Warminster scored 235-8, with Tom Pitman (56) and Peter Hickerton (54 both making half-centuries. Opener Sumith Surendran hit 73 in reply but the efforts of Tristan Lundqvist saw Devizes dismissed for 209.
