ED YOUNG says Potterne need to be more ruthless if they are to turn their recent form around.

The hosts slipped to their fifth defeat of the season, as they fell four wickets short against Bristol in Premier One.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Young was confident his teammates could defend their total of 223, but when Bristol’s opener James Bracey registered 128, they had no trouble reaching a tally of 227-6.

“It was a very frustrating defeat because we have had a couple of losses on the bounce, it would have been nice to get back to winning ways,” said Young.

“I think choosing to bat was the right decision and I thought it was a winning total to be honest, ideally we were probably 20 or 30 short.

“One of their batsmen got in and got 100 and that puts you in a position, but I think we could have defended that total.

“Bracey got 100 so he did well, but we did drop them twice which was frustrating and I don’t think we bowled badly.

“It wasn’t a bad performance, it was just a couple of key moments we actually lost and that is the difference between the two sides and the outcome of the game.”

Next up Potterne host Bedminster and Young sees that as the perfect opportunity to reinvigorate their season.

“Unfortunately over the last few weeks we haven’t played very well at home so it will be good to get a win at home,” he added.

“We are on the latter half of the season now, so gaining momentum and getting five or six wins in a row would completely change the season.

“People need to start getting bigger runs, we haven’t had one person get 100 yet, which is a massive thing.

“Winning is a habit and maybe it is just the experience part, we are playing well, we just aren’t being greedy or ruthless enough.”

Corsham skipper Ashur Morrison couldn’t prevent defeat as his side dropped to the foot of the Premier One table, despite registering a half century (58) against Downend.

Morrison’s troops won the toss and elected to bat, before being dispatched for 156. However the visitors managed to tally 157-7 and claim a three-wicket win.
