BURBAGE & Easton Royal produced a fine all-round performance at the weekend as they claimed a home win over Chippenham in Premier Two Glos/Wilts.

David Cope’s troops were sent to the field after losing the toss, but made light work of their opponents as they were dispatched for 169.

Nicholas Cook and Tom Wallbridge led the way with the ball as they picked up three wickets each, with Wallbridge only needing three balls to dismiss Chippenham’s Aaron Mayweather and Darryl Losper for a duck.

When it was their turn to bat, the hosts made light work of the target they had been set, captain Cope led by example by posting an unbeaten 76.

Deepack Joon and Duncan Lorrain were on hand to assist with totals 58 and 23 respectively, which left them at 176-1 to claim their fourth win in five games.

“The opening spell of bowling took their top three out, which certainly made it hard work for them,” said Cope.

“They did battle for a while but the pressure was on them from the beginning which was what we wanted.

“To knock them over for 169 on a decent batting track was perfect, I would take that every day of the week.

“It ended up being a good toss to lose, I would have chosen to bat if we had won the toss because the pitch looked good.

“It was a good result, I couldn’t have asked for any more. It was a great team performance and if I could take that game every week I would.”

Goatacre kept up their good fortunes with a win at top-of-the-table Cheltenham, who suffered their first defeat of the season.

A superb bowling performance saw the hosts dismissed for 191 as Benny Howell claimed four wickets.

Jack Haynes was the leading scorer with the bat with 75 in Goatacre’s reply as they sealed a five-wicket win with a tally of 193-5.

Biddestone also claimed a win as they inflicted defeat on Gloucester City Winget.

Craig Collison did most of the damage with a four-wicket haul as the away side were brought to a halt for 225 in reply to Biddestone’s 242-7.

Andy Flynn had earlier shone for the hosts with the bat as he posted an unbeaten 76 to set them well on the way to a 17-run win.
