LIAM Dawson helped England get off to a winning start in India on Tuesday.

The Hampshire all-rounder, who hails from Calne, was part of the England team that claimed a three-wicket success over India A in the first 50-over warm-up match in Mumbai.

Dawson, who made his Test debut before Christmas against India, is back on the sub-continent with the limited overs squad and made a vital contribution with the bat.

Chasing 306, the 26-year-old, who plays for Goatacre when his schedule permits, came to the crease with England teetering at 191-5.

Along with Sam Billings, Dawson, who also bowled two overs, shared a 99-run sixth-wicket partnership with the Kent batsman before the Wiltshire ace fell for 41 when he was caught and bowled by Kuldeep Yadav.

England went on to claim victory with seven balls to spare.

Dawson was hoping to be involved again this morning as England face India A again.

The all-rounder, who also made his 50-over and 20-over England debuts last year, will then move on to Pune for the first of three one-day internationals on Sunday.
