CALNE all-rounder Liam Dawson has agreed a new long-term contract with Hampshire that will see him stay with the county until the end of the 2019 season.

Dawson, 26, already had a deal with the Southampton-based outfit until the end of next season but has now extended that commitment for the next three campaigns.

It caps a momentous few months for the former Goatacre player, who won his first England cap in a T20 International victory against Sri Lanka this summer.

The former Hampshire Academy product joined at U11 level 16 years ago but his south coast career appeared to have stalled when he went on loan to Essex in the summer of 2014.

However Dawson, who made his first XI debut back in 2007, returned and enjoyed one of his best seasons with Hampshire this summer, totalling more than 1,300 runs at an average of 45.19 and claiming 47 wickets across all formats.

The left-armer and middle-order batsman also claimed 3-24 on debut in England’s eight-wicket T20 victory over Sri Lanka at the Ageas Bowl in July.

He has also since made his ODI debut, as well as featuring in England’s victorious 50-over touring party of Bangladesh earlier this month.

Dawson said: "It’s very pleasing to sign a new three year contract here at Hampshire.

"The club have shown faith in me which is great and having been here since I was 10 years old, to sign a new long-term deal is great.

"It’s an exciting time for the club at the minute and all of the guys are looking forward to the new season.

"Hopefully with the squad that we’ll have next year, we can really push on in all formats - I’m really hoping to make a huge contribution, not just next season but for the next three years.''
