LIAM Dawson’s international odyssey is set to rumble on and on after the Wiltshire cricketer earned yet another England call-up this week.

Last July, after he was farmed out on loan to Division Two side Essex, Hampshire all-rounder Dawson, from Calne, may have considered international honours a flight of fancy but the 26-year-old is now celebrating being selected as part of England’s one-day international squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan.

Last month, Dawson made his England T20 debut against Sri Lanka at his home club ground – Hampshire’s Ageas Bowl – and rose to the occasion by claiming sensational bowling figures of 3-27.

The Wiltshire ace could now also be in line to make his ODI bow in Southampton, with England’s first clash with Pakistan taking place at the Ageas Bowl on Wednesday, August 24 – between then and September 4, the two teams also meet at Lord’s, Trent Bridge, Headingley and Cardiff.

After being announced as part of England’s 15-man squad on Tuesday, Dawson will meet up with the likes of Eoin Morgan, Joe Root and Ben Stokes on Sunday and as he prepares for his latest stint wearing the famous three lions on his shirt, Dawson couldn’t be happier.

“I knew that I was going to be in the ODI squad four or five days before everyone else did – James Whitaker (national selector) gave me a call and it was really nice to have that conversation,” Dawson told the Gazette & Herald.

“I’m really excited to be a part of the team and I can’t wait to meet up with the guys on Sunday now.

“I thought that my name might get mentioned but I didn’t really expect to be called up. I’ve had a good season in white-ball cricket, though, so it’s really nice to be given that opportunity.

“It’s the kind of thing that you dream about doing as a kid, so it’s a massive honour to be a part of an England squad.

“Starting with a game at Hampshire is great and it would be really nice if I could play some part.”

The only disappointing footnote for Dawson, who was also part of England’s World Twenty20 squad earlier this year, was seeing Hampshire team-mate and fellow Wiltshire man James Vince dropped from the squad.
