LIAM Dawson has been called up to the England one-day international squad to face Pakistan.

However, there was no place for his Wiltshire and Hampshire colleague James Vince, despite making the step into the Test side this summer.

Dawson, 26, who made his international debut earlier this summer in the Twenty20 against Sri Lanka at the Ageas Bowl, is the only uncapped player in the 15-man squad.

National selector James Whittaker said: “He came into the squad for that one-off game and really impressed.

“He’d previously impressed the coaches on the Performance Programme in the winter and over the last two years, he’s been very consistent for Hampshire, so it’s good for him and I’m really pleased he might get a go.”

The first ODI against Pakistan will take place on Wednesday, August 24 at Dawson’s home ground – Hampshire’s Ageas Bowl – before moving on to Lord’s on Saturday, August 27.

England will face Pakistan in the third ODI at Nottinghamshire’s Trent Bridge on Tuesday, August 30, with the final two games being played at Headingley (September 1) and Cardiff (September 4).
