POTTERNE skipper Neil Clark hailed the contribution of teenager Ollie Jackson as the Grove men edged to victory by a single wicket against basement side Taunton.

Having made the trip to Somerset, Potterne were forced into the field after the losing the toss at Gipsy Lane.

But Clark’s side restricted their struggling hosts to 185-9, with Wiltshire captain Ed Young picking up 5-24 from his 10 overs, while Jake Roberts, Andrew Woodward, Gedeon Charles and 17-year-old Jackson all claimed a wicket apiece.

However, what should have been a reasonably comfortable chase for a side that have adapted admirably to their first season in Premier One became extremely nervy for Clark and Co as they slumped to 167-9, with only number nine Dylan Higgins and last man Jackson standing.

But Potterne’s strike bowler Higgins (26 not out) and Wiltshire age group player Jackson (8 not out) saw them home in the 42nd over.

“We made it a lot harder than it should have been,” said Clark. “We made it difficult for ourselves.

“I wouldn’t say that Taunton bowled that well – we just got ourselves out.

“But I was really chuffed for Ollie Jackson. He is only 17 and he showed a lot of maturity to see us home.

“He is not a number 11 batsman. He bats in the top five for the county at age group level.

“He has played for the first team before but there was a lot of pressure on him and he handled it.”

Corsham continue to put pressure on the leading two in Premier One as they collected another resounding victory – this time crushing struggling Taunton St Andrews by 183 runs.

The Station Road outfit amassed 316-4 from their 50 overs, with opener Dwaine Fielding carrying his bat for 131 off 11 balls, hitting 15 fours and three sixes, skipper Ashur Morrison finding some form with 74 and Steve Bullen following up last weekend’s century with 62.

In reply, Corsham wasted little time in making inroads into the St Andrews’ batting line and Tom Foley finished the match with 5-26, including a triple-wicket maiden.
