ON Tuesday night Hampshire were knocked out of the Royal London One-Day Cup after a narrow defeat at home to Somerset.

We knew we had to win the game to qualify for the quarter-finals but we just weren’t good enough and that pretty much sums up our season so far.

They scored 250 on a fairly tough wicket, which was a decent score.

The wicket did spin a bit and it was on the slow side but we knew if we were to take the game deep then we would have a decent chance of winning but we fell just short of our target by six runs.

I scored 22 and it was frustrating to get in and then get out.

I needed to go on a get some runs but I am playing well at the minute and I am not going to score runs in every innings.

The only positive I can take out of it is that I am playing some good cricket at the moment.

We have got six four-day County Championship games left to save our season and stay up.

It is a lot of cricket and we have to ensure that we are performing in every one.

We have probably got to win three out of those six games to stand any chance of staying up in Division One.

It is going to be hard work but we have got to step up as a team and as a squad and find a way of winning four-day games.

We have had a tough season.

We haven’t played good cricket and we are going to have another tough two months of the season left.

There is no point moaning about it or dwelling on it, we have got to find a way of staying up and it is as simple as that.

What puts it all in to perspective is my Hampshire colleague Michael Carberry being diagnosed with cancer last month.

It is a sad time for the club and obviously for him and his family.

He has been a good player for us over the years and hopefully they have caught it early and he can be back with us sooner rather than later on the cricket field.

We are just there for him now if he needs any help.

The support staff are here and the players are here for him but at the moment he is not worrying about us, he has got his family to worry about and his own health.

If he needs anything then the club will support him in any way they can.
