MARLBOROUGH lowered the colours of the WEPL Wiltshire leaders for a second weekend in succession to enhance their own claims for honours on Saturday.

Having handed previous pole-sitters Trowbridge their first league defeat of the campaign seven days previously, the Savernake Forest men then helped to reinstall the west Wiltshire side at the summit as they downed the new leaders Marshfield by 20 runs.

Zwelibanzi Homani hit 83 of the home side's 198-6 after they had won the toss and elected to bat but Matt Cox's 3-35 gave visitors Marshfield a feasible target to aim at.

But let by the bowling of Mohan Balusu (3-56) and Paul Smith (3-25), wickets fell steadily in the Marshfield reply, with only Dave Jenkins (39) able to make any sort of impact as his side were all out for 178 with four overs remaining.

Trowbridge cruised back to the top of the pile as they saw off struggling hosts Devizes by six wickets.

Three wickets each from Mike Reynolds (3-19) and George Reed (3-29) did the majority of the damage as Devizes, having elected to bat, saw their innings end on 128 with two overs to spare.

An unbeaten 42 from Brendon Louw allowed the visitors to get home with plenty to spare with a ball left of the 29th over.

Great Bedwyn found themselves no match for Westbury's batsmen having been sent out to field in their meeting.

The visitors declared after 45 overs on 261-5, opener Richard Mills hitting 72 from 75 balls, while Westbury skipper Alex Senneck added an unbeaten 75 from just 54 deliveries.

Bedwyn were never in the hunt in the reply, which subsided to 154 all out.

Senneck took 3-55 and Jacques Prinsloo 3-22, with only home skipper Alistair Tuttle, with 35, putting up much resistance.

Calne put more distance between themselves and the drop zone with their second victory of the campaign, basement boys Malmesbury the victims in a high-scoring clash.

Having chosen to bat, Malmesbury lost two early wickets before a partnership of 91 between Ewen Kenny (48) and Michael Collison (73) got them on the right track.

The middle order continued to shine James Pearce-Smith (34), James Gaunt (39) and Jack Ward (45 not out) all with useful knocks to take the hosts up to 285-6 from their 50 overs.

Yet Calne scored well in the reply, Bhodi Johnston (36), Thomas Richards (40) and 45 from Pavraj Lochab helping them overhaul their target with a ball to spare.

Elsewhere, Purton were six-wicket winners over local rivals Swindon.
