A MIDWEEK brain-storming session did the trick for Burbage & Easton Royal as they delivered the standout result of the day in Premier Two Glos/Wilts by ending the unbeaten record of leaders Cheltenham.

The villagers nudged themselves further clear of the drop zone as they stunned the pacesetters at the Red Lion Field with a five-wicket success.

Dan Swatton's 3-40 spearheaded the home attack as Cheltenham were all out for 137 in the final over of their 50, Oliver, Adam and James Lavis picking up two wickets apiece.

Sourish Mukherjee's unbeaten 58 set up the win in the reply, wicketkeeper Duncan Lorrain adding an unbeaten 26 late on as Burbage got home in the 47th over.

Burbage had lost three on the spin after a positive start to the summer but bowler Tom Wallbridge says Saturday's result will help re-establish the belief that they belong in the division.

"We'd had a difficult month where we had not played to our best and we sat down in the week and shared a few thoughts about it,'' said Wallbridge.

"We had a good start (to the season) and then, to be honest, we had been beaten by three teams who are more experienced at this level.

"But we came out this week, fought hard and worked hard as a team and put in a great team performance.

"To beat a side who had won every game they had played so far adds to the belief that we are where we are because we are good enough.''

Elsewhere, Chippenham and Biddestone emerged victorious on derby day in the division.

Brad Dawson's Chippenham closed by behind local rivals Goatacre by wrapping up a seven-run triumph in their meeting at Hardenhuish Park.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the home side recovered from an iffy start to post 214-9 from their 50 overs.

They were in some strife at 38-3 before a stand of 82 between Owen Alsop (28) and Dawson (73) repaired some of the damage.

Ed Wilkins (5-43) worked his way through the middle and lower order, but Goatacre's hopes weren't helped by giving up a total of 32 in extras, including 30 in wides.

Stan Alsop's 40 from 22 balls, including four sixes, helped Chippenham past the 200 mark.

Goatacre lost Jake Tillyer without score early on, but Kevin Iles (27) and skipper Wilkins (40) added 41 for the second wicket to steady things.

The villagers though began to lose batsmen as Owen Alsop (5-33) made inroads.

Rob Murphy (29), Ross Dixie (45) and Giorgio Rigali (23) provided late hope for the visitors, but Stan Alsop's 3-41 help conclude their run chase at 207 all out with three balls to spare.

Skipper George Linde smashed a superb 147 off 131 balls to help Biddestone post 237-7 of their 50 overs against Warminster.

Linde's knock included 10 sixes and five fours and was the standout feature of his side's effort, although Luke Panes added a patient 44 not out late on.

Warminster were rarely in the hint, despite 46 from skipper Tom Davie, as Naeem Khan took 4-12 from 10 overs and there were two wickets each for Linde and Liam Boulton to end the reply on 123.
