MARLBOROUGH lost to Swindon by one wicket as the weekend programme was dictated by the weather.

Swindon won the toss and elected to bowl, the overnight rain and cloudy conditions seeming to suit the visitors who raced into a strong position of 30-4.

Marlborough’s Zwelibanzi Homani (60 not out) and Will Langton (53) put on 110 for the fifth wicket and even with a rain-interrupted innings, Marlborough finished on 149-5 off 39 overs.

Swindon’s Jonathan Sore, Danny Baker, Liam Tucker and Sam Page made an average start before they were sent packing to leave the score at 61-4.

Douglas Baartman and Joshua Weaver were soon dealt with by Paul Smith who bowled the pair out leaving Swindon for 68-6 and Wahab Khalid and Harry Chevis also weighed in.

Tom Codling and opposition captain Andrew Staff delivered the goods late on for Swindon, with 34 and 36 not out respectively to take their side over the line at 150-9.

Great Bedwyn’s game against Devizes was abandoned early on due to the weather and it was a similar story for Calne in their game with Marshfield.

Marshfield had posted 307-5, with Russell Lodge (58), Jeremy Bond (47), Nic Badings (59) and Ben Gardner (40) in decent form with the bat, but Calne had only reached 20-0 when the elements intervened.

Malmesbury were beaten by five wickets at Westbury, who posted 268-5 off 49 overs, having been put into bat.

Wicketkeeper Jared Mcdonald scored 112 and Dan Gill 71, with Malmesbury never in the hunt in reply.
