CRICKET can be immensely frustrating when things are not going your way but with the potential of my England debut on the horizon I have to keep focused on the positives.

We were massively up against it again against Somerset in our four-day County Championship Division One game.

It was a very good batting wicket and we gave away our wickets very cheaply, including myself.

The batters are pretty low on confidence at the moment which doesn’t help and we know it is not good enough.

It is hard when we are in a slump like this. Personally, it is very disappointing in the four-day season so far, I haven’t scored enough runs and I haven’t taken many wickets.

Mentally as well it weighs you down a little bit when you are always thinking about where your next runs are coming from or your next wicket.

A lot of it is being able to deal with the mental side of the game and some are better at it than others and that is probably not one of my strengths.

It is something I have to work on because I do get very frustrated easily and after seven games, only averaging about 24 or 25, it does take its toll and it does get you down because you are under constant pressure all the time.

At the minute I am struggling with four-day cricket but my one-day cricket is going brilliantly so it is a little bit of give and take.

With our T20 Blast game with Gloucestershire abandoned at the weekend due to the weather, that means we are basically out of that competition now.

It would have been nice to get another game under my belt before Tuesday, when I meet up with the England squad, but it wasn’t to be.

It is obviously an exciting time for me, potentially I could make my debut at my home ground which would be a very special moment.

But, that might not happen either and they might go with a different team so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens on Tuesday.

You still get excited, it is just nice to be mentioned with England and that is a massive positive for myself.

Even if I don’t play, I am still very honoured to be part of that squad and if I keep putting in good white-ball performances in for Hampshire then I could potentially play sooner rather than later.
