GOATACRE registered an eight-wicket in Premier Two Glos/Wilts victory when they hosted Burbage & Easton Royal on Saturday.

Having lost the toss Goatacre were sent into the field, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Ross Dixie claimed Burbage’s opening pair for 14 runs.

Sourish Mukherjee and Bevan Small were then both dismissed for a duck when Dixie struck again, this time catching Bevan.

Goatacre captain Ed Wilkins said: “It was good, we lost the toss and I was surprised they chose to bat. We were happy to bowl.

“Matt House and Giorgio Rigali’s bowling got us into the game and for them to be all out for 100 was ruthless.

“Dixie caught one out with a brilliant catch, he picked up everyone on the field.”

The visitors’ struggles continued as Daniel Wootton was bowled after facing seven balls for two runs, while Duncan Lorrain’s stay yielded four from 37 balls.

Daniel Swatton and Adam Lavis made some progress with scores of 26 and 16 respectively, but Tom Wallbridge, James Lavis and Oliver Lavis managed 15 before their side were all out for 100.

The home side’s reply suffered a setback after Jack Haines was caught by Wootton for a duck off two balls.

But Kev Iles scored a half century to send Goatacre well on the road way to victory despite skipper Wilkins being dismissed for a duck.

Wilkins added: “We knew it would be tough as we lost two wickets and then we started thinking it would be tricky.

“But it’s really good that we managed to get some points, we need to keep winning.”

Toby Horton wrapped up the victory when he scored 32.

Chippenham and Biddestone both had their fixtures abandoned due to the weather.

Chippenham were only able to face three balls before the game was brought to a halt.

Biddestone tallied 226-3 before their game was also cancelled notably Dwaine Perry claiming 106 not out.

THE Premier One derby between Potterne and Corsham also fell victim to the elements on Saturday.

Thomas Cullen scored 104 and shared in partnerships of 127 with Luke De Souza (50) and Ed Young (57) as Potterne reached 222-3.

However, the Corsham bowlers hit back, Dwaine Fielding taking 6-44 as the home side subsided to 246 all out.

Corsham had reached 27 without lost when the weather intervened.
