BY the time you read this, our game against Notts will be over, and hopefully we’ll have come out on top.

At the start of the final day, we were in a nice position.

Notts needed to get the highest score of the match so far, so if we could get another 30 runs, they’d need to score 300 – it was set up for a really exciting last day of cricket.

Like me, Tom Alsop is from Wiltshire and he scored his maiden first-class half-century during our first innings.

He had a tough time opening the batting against two very good sides in Warwickshire and Yorkshire but he batted really nicely earlier this week and it was good to see him get that score.

It’s not easy breaking through as a young player. The pressure in second team cricket is completely different to what it’s like at first-class level and you just have to do your best to deal with it as soon as possible.

But Tom’s done well – he’s looked at home whenever he’s played and he’s not looked out of his depth at all.

James Vince didn’t really get the chance to score many runs for England in the first test match but it was his first one and he’s come away on the winning side, so I imagine he won’t care about that too much.

England’s seamers, James Anderson and Stuart Broad, absolutely destroyed Sri Lanka, so the match was over pretty quickly, but Vincey will have another chance to score some runs at Durham and I’m sure he’ll be looking forward to that.

My injury is fine now but I have struggled a little bit in the last few weeks, so it’s going to be nice to have our first T20 game against Middlesex on Friday night.

After five tough four-day matches, it’s going to be nice to go out there and try to bat and bowl in a new format.
