WILTSHIRE ended the first County Championship match of the season decidedly soggy on a wet Shropshire day, but their spirits were anything but down.
Across the country, runs were hard to come by on a day plagued with rain.
Winning the toss was always going to prove to be an advantage for the fortunate captain.
Losing the toss, Wiltshire were inserted at Quatt where the pitch and outfield were still damp from overnight rain.
A mixture of accurate bowling and the slow outfield made run scoring difficult.
Debutant Rosie Pembroke was the mainstay of the innings, arriving at the crease with the score on 21-2 and was the last batter out for a watchful 25 with the score on 91.
Salop attacked the target from the start and despite wickets from Wiltshire’s Pippa Brown and Vickie Hathway, hit the winning runs in the 20th over of their reply with seven wickets in hand.
