BURBAGE & Easton Royal captain Tom Wallbridge described the Glos/Wilts Division as a ‘crazy league’ after virtually securing safety from the WEPL end of season reshuffle.

Wallbridge enjoyed a win over bottom side Apperley, where he spent half of the game as a virtual spectator.

Having restricted their visitors to 199-6, the Burbage opening pair of Jonathan Chandler and David Cope put on 156 for the first wicket.

After the departure of Chandler for 57, Cope went on to reach three figures and guide his side a nine-wicket win, with the help of Luke Woodcock, after just 32.2 overs.

It meant the skipper did not have to bat, something Wallbridge was pleased with.

“They haven’t won a game all season. It was one we expected to win, but you be caught out in sport thinking like that,” he said.

“We did it quite clinically, but they actually batted quite well.

“Our two lads opening the batting went about knocking it off, David got 107 and Jon Chandler got 57. It was nice for the captain not to have a stressful one where you are pacing around the boundary.

“It was nice it was quite straightforward.

“I don’t really want to finish in the bottom three because of the restructuring.

“In their their template, we’re safe, but who knows what the West of England Cricket League will come up with.

“To be on the safe side, I’d rather finish as far out of the bottom three as possible.

“If you look at the league, we’re still looking over our shoulder a bit a and we’ve won more than half our games.

“It’s a crazy league, anyone can beat anyone.”

As if to prove Wallbridge’s point, elsewhere in the division, Chippenham lost to second-bottom Tewkesbury to dent their title-ambitions.

Freddie Humphries and Tom Allcoat scored 70 and 63 respectively as the relegation-battlers chased down their visitors' modest target of 199 with two balls to spare.

Allcoat also starred with the ball as he weighed in with 4-45 from his 10 overs, combining with Chris Davies (3-34), to restrict Chippenham.

Brad Dawson top-scored for his side with 43.

Andy Flynn hit an unbeaten 52 as Biddestone claimed a 10-run win over visiting Warminster.

Despite losing the toss, Flynn’s knock helped the home side post 170 and Naeem Khan and Chris Baker then claimed three wickets apiece as the Warminster reply was dismissed for just 160.
